Web Informers Web Informers ©2005 | Search Engines - How Does AOL Search Work?

AOL

AOL is a search engine that uses multiple to produce its results. AOL's webindex results are provided by Google -- with a twist. AOL uses Google PPC for the sponsored entries. AOL does not have an add url page of it's own -- to get listed in AOL you should submit to Google. In researching results sequencing, the top 25 results from Google do appear as the top 25-ish results in AOL, except in a different order.

AOL will sometimes insert one or two top results from their private files, then present the resequenced Google results. As such, it is pretty clear that while the data is from Google, you cannot assume the rankings are even close.

The thing to remember is that you must have suitable URL content and be engineered to beat your competition within AOL before you register your pages. Just registering with AOL does not assure a suitable ranking.
